Prof. Ir. Dr. Leong Wai Yie

LEONG received her PhD and Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering from The University of Queensland (UQ), Brisbane, Australia in 2005 and 2000 respectively. She has authored 6 book series and more than 100 papers that highlight the innovation on Electronics and Biomedical Engineering. Wai Yie is currently the Chairperson of The Institution of Engineering and Technology (Malaysia Local Network), the Vice President of the Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) and formal Chairperson of Women Engineers Section, Malaysia. Board of Directors of International Network of Women Engineers and Scientists, and Committee Member of World Federation of Engineering Organisation (Women in Engineering Committee). She is the Chairman of IEM INFOPUB, IEM Chief Editor and IET Editor. She specialises in medical signal processing and telecommunications research. She has been researching on IR4.0, wireless sensor networks, ultra-wideband and wireless communications, and on Brain Signal Processing for signal conditioning and classification in various EEG-based mental tasks.

Prof Zainal received his B.Eng. degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) and Ph.D. degree in High Voltage Engineering from the University of Manchester, U.K. Currently, he is a Strategic Hire Professor at the Institute of Power Engineering (IPE), UNITEN and a Professor at the Faculty of Engineering, UPM. He is the Founding Director at the CELP, UPM.
Prof Zainal is a Fellow of Academy of Sciences Malaysia (ASM) and Fellow of the IET. He is also an IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES) Distinguished Lecturer in the field of lightning and high voltage engineering. To date he has authored and co-authored over 400 journals and conference papers. He has supervised 28 PhD and 42 MSc students and currently 30 PhD and 4 MSc are on their way. His research interests include high voltage engineering, lightning protection, electromagnetic compatibility, power system transients and renewable energy.
Prof Zainal is a Professional Engineer (PEPC), a Chartered Engineer (CEng) and a Professional Technologist (PTech). Currently, he is the Chairman of the National Mirror Committee of IEC TC 81 (Lightning Protection) and Local Convener of MNC-CIGRE C4 on System Technical Performance. He is also an Advisory Board Member of the National Lightning Safety Institute (NLSI) USA, Steering Committee of Asia Pacific Lightning and Research Advisor for the African Centre for Lightning and Electromagnetic (ACLE).
